Step 1 to your perfect Paris surprise proposal ~ select your favorite location!

As a surprise proposal photography specialist, I've put together the best surprise proposal locations in Paris not only for the proposal itself, but for the photography. Some locations are better than others different times of day, and it's through my vast experience that I can advise you what is best for the surprise proposal you dream of.

As you'll notice here, all of these locations are outdoors with views on iconic Paris landmarks. Some clients want to propose on restaurant terraces, restaurants or hotels, however, those locations are private establishments and often require commercial photography permits to photograph there. As Paris itself is a gorgeous backdrop for any surprise proposal, the Picture Me Paris surprise proposals take place outdoors amongst the grandeur of the city.

Most clients prefer to propose at a location near the Eiffel Tower, but there are so many options other than the Eiffel Tower such as the Louvre, Luxembourg Gardens and Montmartre, to name a few. I'm happy to help you select the location that is best for you, this is part of the comprehensive surprise proposal services I offer.

Scroll down and choose from the Eiffel Tower or another beautiful Paris surprise proposal location. Aren't sure yet? No worries, you can decide later! For the time being, just select the one that appeals to you most, it can be changed later.

With my expertise as a surprise proposal photography specialist in Paris, I've determined that these locations are the very best in Paris for your surprise proposal. Select your favorite below!

eiffel tower trocadero/palais de chaillot

Best time: EARLY MORNING ONLY (7:00 - 10:00 am)

This is the most popular spot for proposals at the Eiffel Tower. It's an incredibly beautiful vantage point of the Eiffel Tower. However, due to its enormous popularity, we can only do surprise proposals here in the morning between 7:00 am and 10:00 am, not in the afternoon or evening. If you'd like to do an evening proposal, we have many other beautiful spots. How do you get your loved one here in the morning? it's easy, I'll give you tips later!

Many people want to know why this spot is not available after the morning time. On average, 25,000 visitors a day visit the Eiffel Tower, and several thousand visit Trocadero. They often hang out here much of the day, have picnics, drink bees with friends, play loud music, and street performers perform on the staircases, with hundreds of tourist spectators. Not really the most romantic time for a surprise proposal and impossible for me to create beautiful, creative surprise proposal photography that you'll cherish (think of all the people who will be in your photos).

In the morning, it has way fewer tourists, by late morning tourists buses start filling the area.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Somewhat private in the morning, no privacy at all after around 10:00 am

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Incredible overall view of the Eiffel Tower

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Can't photograph here after mid-morning as it gets way too busy, and is not romantic

eiffel tower pont bir hakeim

Best time: Perfect for late afternoons and evenings!

This is by far the most popular spot for surprise proposals in Paris with a view of the Eiffel Tower! Perfect for morning, afternoon or evening proposals! It's a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower with the added benefit of a gorgeous bridge behind it. You may have seen it in the film, Inception, with Leonardo DiCaprio! One of the most popular spots in Paris for surprise proposals and wedding photography. The beauty of proposing here in the late afternoon or evening is that you can take your loved one to a wonderful dinner afterward.

This is a magical spot, and many of my clients have thanked me for recommending it.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Very private in the morning, moderately private in the afternoon and evening.

This location is very quiet in the morning, you're likely to be alone here or with less than 10 people around. In the afternoon and evening, it gets busier, as people stop to take photographs here, and there is a lot of wedding photography here. That said, usually people don't stay too long before moving along, so it's a great spot for the afternoon and evening.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Stunningly beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River, the bridge behind it is gorgeous and beautiful for post-proposal images. It's my client's favorite location for Eiffel Tower surprise proposals in the evening, or even in the morning.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Sometimes, if the weather is nice, there are a lot of people gathered here, particularly on Saturday evenings for weddings, but usually people don't stay too long.

eiffel tower view at pont alexandre

Best time: Lovely in the morning or evening

If you don't need to be near to the Eiffel Tower itself, but would like a pretty view of it on the most beautiful bridge of Paris, the Pont Alexandre, is perfect for day or evening proposals! The gorgeous golden bridge with its cherubs was even featured by Hollywood, in the very last scene of Midnight in Paris

This is the absolute prettiest bridge in Paris!

PRIVACY FACTOR: Very private in the morning, not private in the afternoon

This bridge is very private in the morning, with people passing over it, but few tourists. Later in the day, more tourists stop to take photographs of the bridge and the Eiffel Tower, but it's really great all day.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: The most beautiful bridge in Paris, and the location is central.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: You do have foot traffic on the bridge and of course cars. But the bridge is wide, so we have enough room for photographs.

eiffel tower view at passarelle debilly

Best time: Lovely all day long

The Passarelle Debilly is a pedestrian footbridge on the east side of the Eiffel Tower. As there is no traffic here except pedestrians, it is a bit more private than other locations. It's not the prettiest bridge in Paris, but it has a great view!

PRIVACY FACTOR: Fairly private all day

This is a pedestrian-only footbridge, so people do walk across it and stop to take photos, but they don't stay too long, so it's really good for semi-privacy and has a great view of the Eiffel Tower.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower and as it is a foot bridge only, really easy to photograph.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: The bridge itself is not that pretty and parts of it farther down have some graffiti.

eiffel tower view at avenue camoens

Best time: Lovely all day long

Avenue Camoens is a residential neighborhood adjacent to Trocadero with an iconic and special view of the Eiffel Tower. It also is surrounded by amazing Parisian architecture. It's a fairly private area, although it is popular with photo shoots and as there is a nearby school, sometimes students take their breaks here. It is a unique and special spot for a Paris surprise proposal and just a short distance from Trocadero.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Fairly private in the morning, and also in the afternoon

This is a residential neighborhood, so you will see neighbors here and students from the nearby school sometimes hang out here. It's also popular for photo shoots, but it's a very unique vantage point for the Eiffel Tower and among the more private spots. It's also really close to Trocadero.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: It's in sort of a secret spot that many people know about, but not too many go to. Look at that gorgeous architecture and the view of the Eiffel Tower is really something special and unique.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: Sometimes the surrounding buildings are being refurbished, so there is sometimes construction. Also, sometimes cars park in the street.

louvre museum and tuileries gardens

Best time: Lovely all day long

The most famous art museum in the world, the Louvre, makes an amazing backdrop for your Paris surprise proposal. There is a great view of the the Louvre from the Tuileries Gardens, and while this area isn't completely private, people are usually just passing through this portion of the park. Does not have a view of the Eiffel Tower.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Fairly private all day long

This is a proposal spot in the Tuileries Gardens, with the Louvre in the background. People walk through here and walk their dogs, and on nice days they sit on the pretty green chairs. However, it's a big space and offers I think a good deal of privacy, you won't have a lot of people around you.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: A magnificent view of the Louvre, a world famous museum, in a gorgeous Parisian park It's just really pretty.

luxembourg gardens/medici fountain

Best time: Lovely all day long

This famous Paris park has been the scene of many Paris surprise proposals and for good reason, it’s gorgeous. The most popular spot in the garden is at the Médicis Fountain. There is no view of the Eiffel Tower but the park is splendid.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Fairly private all day long, especially in the morning

This park is a gem, and in the morning is mostly filled with runners. In the afternoon, if it's a nice day, the people will come out to enjoy the park, but while you won't be there alone, it's a very peaceful place with people who are minding their business.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: In my opinion, this is the prettiest park in Paris and there are tons of photo opportunities here. I love the feel in this park, it's pretty and makes you feel good.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: It's my favorite park in Paris, so I can't really think of a negative!

montmartre

Best time: Lovely all day long, really quiet in the morning

This incredibly charming Parisian village on a hill is a romantic spot for a surprise proposal your loved one will never forget. There is a view of the Eiffel Tower from afar in Montmartre, but not from our proposal spots.

When you think of quintessential Paris, this is what people mostly think of. Cute cafes, cobblestone streets, and one of the more colorful parts of the city. It also has an amazing view overlooking the city.

PRIVACY FACTOR: Really private in the morning, less private as the day wears on but still some great spots with good privacy

No one in Montmartre is out and about before 10:00 am, so morning proposals are very private here. Even later in the day, there are special spots with fewer people that make the privacy level higher than other places.

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: The most charming spot in Paris, with a really old-world Paris feel.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: It takes some time to get there, as it's on a hill and not centrally located. But it's worth the trip, where else can you see a vineyard in Paris?

notre dame cathedral

Best time: Lovely all day long, very quiet in the morning

The most famous gothic cathedral in the world makes a stunning backdrop for your surprise proposal. Here we photograph in the garden behind the cathedral, it’s very beautiful! There is no view of the Eiffel Tower, but look at that architecture! Imagine proposing near a structure that has stood the test of time, just like your love, built in 1345 AD!

PRIVACY FACTOR: Really private in the morning, less private as the day wears on but still really good privacy, most people are just walking through the gardens

Paris is the most visited city in the world, with over 30 million visitors a year. There are always tourists around, and Parisians themselves. So one should never expect to be totally alone in any Paris location. However, some locations are a bit more private than others. I've tried to rate them here, let me know if privacy is a huge concern.

BEST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: It's just so grand, and so pretty, and it's on an island in the middle of the Seine River, and thus very peaceful and calm.

WORST THING ABOUT THIS LOCATION: They are doing construction on Notre Dame to rehabilitate it, so there is some scaffolding currently on the building.
