Baby on board in Paris
When I met Norma, I didn't even realize at first she was expecting. She and her husband Jeremiah were in Paris visiting for the first time, with their beautiful 18-month old in tow. Norma looked absolutely radiant and her red dress was the perfect color for a sunny day.
Jeremiah is the kind of man you hope to have in your life, I could tell from the short time I spent photographing him and his family, that he is a kind husband and excellent father, he clearly adores his daughter and she adores him. Plus, the way he looked at Norma, this is a really special family who loves each other so much.
Family time at the Eiffel Tower
Unfortunately, the baby wasn't enjoying my company as much as I'd hoped. Fresh from a nap, she finally came around, but wasn't too thrilled about being photographed, and who can blame her? With the distraction of all the people at the Eiffel Tower, plus dogs--that's right, there were a lot of dogs today at the Eiffel Tower for some reason, it's hard for a little girl to keep focused on the fact that we want a beautiful photo of her!
So what do you do with a baby under two who isn't too interested in sitting still? Well, you capture her running and playing, and exploring. Family photographs don't have to be the perfectly posed images we imagine, in fact the reality is, with little children you're lucky if they sit still for just a moment, even outside, where they have lots of room to run.
Eiffel Tower surprises
I photographed this loving family at the Trocadero area of the Eiffel Tower, which, in my opinion, is the best place for family photography in Paris overlooking the Eiffel Tower. It's important to get there as early as possible, as the area is pretty busy with tourists after 9:00 am. But it's got a lot going for it. In addition to a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower, there's also a park on either side, with play equipment for children, and green grass to run around on.
We started our Paris family photo session on the top level of Trocadero, and then worked our way down into the gardens, one of my favorite places to shoot, and also with a view of the carousel. I also like to give families a lot of opportunities to sit. We sat on a bench, we sat on a concrete slab overlooking the Eiffel Tower, and finally, we tossed some blankets on the grass and enjoyed a beautiful, sunny Paris day overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
I so enjoyed my time with this family, and learning more about them. In addition to the family photos, we also did some maternity-themed photos as a beautiful memory of an amazing time in a family's life, awaiting the arrival of a new family member.
My thanks to this friendly family for spending part of their Paris morning with me. I wish you all the best with your new little bundle of joy!
