Several months ago I was contacted by a very nice man from Germany named Ümit. HIs dream was to propose to his girlfriend Aylin in Paris, where they were set to go on holiday. But he wanted something a little unique, so he asked if I could photograph them at the Palace of Versailles. As I love Versailles, I jumped at the chance. Versailles in April, what could be better?
We planed how it would work. I had been to Versailles many times before, and on one of those outings photographed the areas around Marie Antoinette's estate. On the grounds there is a statue which you can stand under called the Temple of Love. What better place to propose, I thought, so I suggested it to Ümit. He loved the idea. We would meet at the main gate, I would pose as a tour guide, with a tour of the Marie Antoinette estate. Once we arrived there, we'd head to the Temple of Love.
As I used to be a tour guide for real, I really enjoyed planning my Marie Antoinette "tour". We walked through the grounds and I shared the stories of her arrival at 14 from Austria, her life at Versailles, and how she fell out of favor with the French people.
I have to admit, I think my tour wasn't bad!
Aylin had no idea, and when we arrived to the Temple of Love, Ümit asked her to spend the rest of his life with him. It was a very sweet moment.
After, we roamed around the hamlet behind Marie's estate to take in some of the lush green vegetation.
I couldn't have been more thrilled to spend some of the day at Versailles with this lovely couple! Thank you so much for choosing me to capture your special time!
