There are tons of fun things to do in Paris, no matter if you're vacationing in Paris a few days or a few weeks. Of course, there are the most-known fun things to do, such as visit the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and the Notre Dame Cathedral. However, as someone who lives in this beautiful city, I'm going to let you in on some fun things you may not have heard of. Here are my picks for some other fun things to do in Paris. Enjoy some of the most fun things to do in Paris!
The old Paris opera house is a tourist attraction. Despite its popularity, you'd be surprised how many people actually skip it! The inside of this magnificent building, built by Charles Garnier, is one of the most stunning in Paris. Also, don't forget to peek inside the theater itself and get a load of that ceiling, magnificently pained by Marc Chagall! It surprises me how many people completely skip this grand opera house, I think one of the grandest and fun experiences in Paris. Read more about Opera Garnier and get your tickets here.
Free Views of Paris
Many people flock to the Eiffel Tower to have a view. I can't say I blame visitors for wanting to take a look out over Paris from the grand dame. But, what if I told you there was a view that was spectacular and free? There is! Both the famous department stores Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, just behind the Opera Garnier, have rooftop terraces, with amazing views of the city. You'll see behind the opera house, the church of Madeline, the Eiffel Tower, and on the other side, a magnificent view of Montmartre and Sacre Coeur Cathedral. On each terrace there is also a cafe, so you can grab a sandwich and drink if you need replenishing. Also, it's worth noting that both of these department stores have very nice, and classy souvenirs and are gorgeous buildings to be seen on their own.
Bois de Vincennes
Need to get your run on? Bike? Walk? This gorgeous park, on the east side of Paris, has been my stomping grounds for the last few years. Every week I rent a Velib bicycle (public sharing system) and pedal around the forests ( bois) of Vincennes. There is even a road just for cyclists. You cannot believe you're still in Paris at this park. You can row a boat on the lake, have a picnic, or just walk through the forest. You can even visit the castle there, the Chateau de Vincennes. Most people run out of time or don't know about this park, but if you like your city with a little nature, this park is amazing. It's easy to get to as well. The same metro line that takes you to the Arc de Triomphe and Louvre takes you to this park, line 1. All you have to do is get off at the very end.
Tour for the TV and Movie Lovers
If you love movies and TV, you're going to love the Set in Paris Movie Tours! Did you know that Paris is one of the world's most active filming locations? Your favorite movies like Mission Impossible, Amelie, Devil Wears Prada, Bourne Identity, Inception and TV shows like Sex & the City and Gossip Girl have all filmed in Paris. This movie tour company was started by Abigail Debruyne, and her excellent team will delight and entertain you. It's one of the most fun tours in Paris!
Walk Along the Petite Ceinture
Petite Ceinture means little belt, and refers to a network of abandoned rail lines within Paris. Some of these rail lines are still closed, some have been repurposed and reopened to the public. While others have been transformed into public gardens. If you want to see more of Paris and take the offbeat path rather than the shiny, glossy, tourist sites, you'll want to head to the funky and fun restaurant in the 18th arrondissement called Le Recyclerie. Just outside the restaurant is a public garden along the abandoned railroad tracks. It's a ton of fun to see what people plant there and enjoy a delicious drink or meal. This is hip and urban exploration at its finest!
See a Concert or Show
Paris has a ton of places to see live music. If a big show is what you're into, you may find U2 playing at the Stade de France, or Lady Gaga playing at AccorHotels Arena. Check out Pollstar.com before you get to Paris to see which of your favorite artists is playing in town!
A Bit of Morocco in Paris
No time to head to Morocco? Then no worries, one of the coolest and most unique places in Paris is the Grand Mosque de Paris. It's a slice of Morocco right in town. It's a mosque, but you don't have to be Muslim to enter. It's open to everyone and they have a guided tour several times a day. You can admire the gorgeous Moroccan tiles and architecture. As colorful as the mosque itself is, you simply must stop into the tea room for a delicious meal of tajine and a mint tea. You may want to go early, this place is packed on weekends, especially on Sunday afternoon, with Parisians and visitors enjoying this cozy restaurant.
